GOP leadership wants to take the fight to Dems, and they don’t want to be in the spotlight
The Republican National Committee’s policy committee wants to do what the rest of the party is not: get in front of the public, talk to voters and get them to support its candidate for president.
“We’ve had some pretty big successes,” said RNC policy adviser Adam Brandon, in an interview with The Associated Press.
“This is one of them.”
In a bid to make a more compelling case to voters, the RNC is making the case for the GOP’s nominee in two new ads.
The first features a white-haired man holding a microphone and talking to a woman.
He says, “The party of Lincoln can win the White House again.
We’re not afraid of a challenge.
We can defeat President Obama.”
He adds, “This time, we will win.”
It was launched Tuesday by a group called “We the People” that wants to put the spotlight on Republicans who are running for president in November.
The RNC has already aired ads attacking the other Republican candidates and highlighting their positions on issues like abortion, gay rights and the minimum wage.
It’s not the first time the RNC has tried to get voters to think about how it might help its nominee in a general election.
In May, the group ran a video featuring then-candidate Mitt Romney talking about a hypothetical battle in which the Republicans would win the presidency in the next election.
The ad, titled “The Democrats are out to get me,” was criticized for being misleading and did not mention the Republican nominee.
The group has also tried to reach out to young people and minorities, though Brandon said the group’s outreach to voters has largely been about helping the GOP with its message.
“The RNC is trying to make sure that people understand that this is the party of Abraham Lincoln,” he said.
The third ad, “Don’t let Trump win again,” focuses on the Republican Party’s nominee, Donald Trump, who has been accused of sexually assaulting women.
The narrator says, he will be President of the United States and is not afraid to take on the Democratic Party.
“I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and I know how hard it is to win elections in the 21st century,” he says.
“Donald Trump is not a Democrat.
He’s not a Republican.
He is a misogynist.
He wants to ruin America and destroy families.”
The RNC will also use the ad to promote a new ad campaign.
The campaign, called “Lincoln for President,” focuses heavily on issues that resonate with younger voters.
The Republican Party “is in a race to the bottom on the issues,” Brandon said.
“You’re going to hear us talk about jobs, on education, on health care, on women’s rights.
And you’re going a lot of the time in the ads, you’re not going to see a Republican talking about them.”
The GOP has also begun airing ads attacking Democrats who oppose abortion rights and gun rights.
“When you see Democrats trying to cut off women’s access to safe abortion services and denying the rights of women to choose in the last election, you know you’re in a safe place,” the narrator says in the ad.
“It’s the party that is out to take away women’s health care and the rights that come with that.
A former senior White House official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to discuss internal party deliberations, said the Trump campaign is “really focused on what the RNC sees as the negatives.” “
